The da Vinci MAESTRO Grand Opening 2025 is a kolinsky sable round brush for watercolour, gouache and fine detail work. It is released as a limited edition for 2025, is made by hand in Nuremberg using traditional methods and is individually numbered.

The fine, springy hair draws precise lines, takes up colour well and springs back into shape after pressure. This helps when you want to work precisely with the tip, for example on outlines, small motifs or illustrations. Every brush is checked before it leaves the workshop.

Working with the round brush

Dip the brush in clean water before applying colour and wipe off excess moisture on the rim of the jar. Pick up the paint with the belly of the brush so that a reserve stays in the hair, and guide the tip lightly across the paper. Light pressure gives fine lines; more pressure makes the stroke wider. This lets you switch between outlines and small areas without changing brushes. With gouache, details work best when the paint is mixed creamy but not too thick.

Caring for a natural hair brush

After painting, rinse the brush in clean water, gently shape the hair towards the tip and leave it to dry lying flat. Never leave it standing in the water jar with the hairs downwards, otherwise the fine tip will bend.
