The Prym S4 two-way zip (art. no. 490360-002) is an open-ended zip with plastic teeth for garments and accessories that need to open from both ends. Prym lists jackets, waistcoats and bags as uses. The chain, zip pulls and tape are all dark grey, so the zip hardly shows in dark fabrics. Choose the length from the options.

What does a two-way zip offer?

Two zip pulls on one chain can be moved in both directions. On a long jacket or waistcoat, you open the zip from the bottom to sit down comfortably or take long strides, and close it further up. On bags, you can reach the contents from both sides. Because the zip is open-ended, it can be separated completely at the bottom, just like on a standard jacket.

Sewing it in

Measure the opening on your pattern piece without seam allowances and choose the length to match. Pin the tape in place beforehand or secure it with clips. Using the zip foot, sew close along the teeth without hitting them. Before sewing it in, check that both zip pulls run smoothly.
