YKK open-ended metal zip – 80 cm in antique brass for jackets and waistcoats
The YKK zip RGKBOR-56 is an open-ended metal zip in antique brass, 80 cm long. You sew it in wherever the opening needs to separate completely, for example in jackets, waistcoats or sportswear.
Open-ended means that the pin and box at the bottom end can be released completely from the slider, leaving the two halves separate. You need this for jackets that should open and close easily whether you are standing or sitting. According to the YKK catalogue, the metal teeth have a chain size of 5 mm.
Sewing in the open-ended zip
First measure the length of the opening, from the bottom hem to the edge of the collar. An open-ended zip cannot be shortened at the bottom, because the pin and box are there. Choose the length to match the opening.
- Tack both halves separately to the edges of the opening, with the teeth facing the edge.
- Make sure the halves start at the same height at the bottom, otherwise the jacket will hang crooked.
- Before topstitching, fasten the zip once and check that the edges line up at the same height.
- Sew with a zip foot and do not let the needle hit the metal teeth, so that it does not break.
