BeaverCraft LS4P1 leather strop paddle – honing and polishing knives
The BeaverCraft LS4P1 strop paddle is a single-sided leather strop with green polishing compound. You use it to hone knife blades and polish the edge, for example on kitchen knives, carving knives and leather-cutting tools. The cowhide is mounted on an ash wood paddle and the polishing compound is already applied. The strop is ready to use straight away.
At 225 × 65 × 25 mm, the paddle offers a surface on which you can also work longer blades. You can rest it on the workbench or hold it in your hand. Because only one side is covered, the working surface is clear: the leather side with compound is your honing surface.
How to strop a knife
A strop keeps an already sharp edge in shape and removes fine burrs. A truly blunt blade should first be sharpened on a whetstone and then stropped on the leather.
- Place the paddle on a firm surface with the leather side facing up.
- Lay the blade flat, raise the spine only slightly and keep this angle constant.
- Pull the blade over the leather spine first, with the edge trailing behind. Never push with the edge leading, or you will cut into the leather.
- At the end of the stroke, turn the blade over its spine and make the same number of strokes on the other side.
- Work with light pressure and test the sharpness from time to time.
