The Opinel Le Petit Chef set is a three-piece children's kitchen set: a knife with a rounded tip, a peeler and a finger guard. With it, young cooks learn under supervision to peel and cut fruit and vegetables. The set is recommended from age 7.

The knife and the peeler each have a teaching ring. It puts the fingers in the right position and helps stop them slipping towards the blade when cutting and peeling. The blades are made of stainless steel and the handles of beech wood. The set comes in 3 colours; choose your colour from the options.

How your child practises safe cutting

Always cut on a stable wooden or plastic board that will not slip, for example with a damp cloth underneath. The other hand holds the food in place with the finger guard, so that the fingertips do not get under the blade. The teaching ring on the knife and the peeler gives the guiding hand its place on the handle. Start with soft vegetables or fruit such as cucumber, banana or mushrooms, and only progress once the hand position is secure. The rounded tip of the knife reduces the risk of stab injuries, but does not replace supervision, because the blade is sharp.

What is in the set

The knife with its 10 cm blade is smaller than an adult's knife and so sits better in children's hands. The peeler is suitable for peeling fruit and vegetables. The finger guard protects the hand that holds the food.

Care

Wash the three pieces by hand and dry them afterwards. Because of the beech wood handles, they must not go in the dishwasher.
