Round faux leather bag base – a starting point for handmade bags and baskets

The round bag base from Go Handmade is a perforated base made of black faux leather, 20 cm in diameter. You use it as the foundation for DIY handbags: you work the side wall onto it along the perforations.

The holes make getting started easy, because you work the first round not along a loose edge but at firm, evenly spaced starting points. The black leather look goes with yarn, fabric or weaving strips in almost any colour.

Working along the perforations

The holes serve as starting points all around the base. You can crochet stitches directly through the holes, sew on a piece of fabric with needle and thread, or thread through braiding material. Important: the needle or crochet hook must fit through the 4 mm holes. With thick yarn, work the first round in a thinner yarn and only then continue with the thicker one.

Choosing the right size

At Ø 20 cm, the base suits smaller bags and little baskets. The series is also available in other diameters, for example Ø 30 cm in beige, if you are planning a larger bag.
